Protocol Program at EDC, UUM

This is the very first time I attended  the Protocol Program held by EDC UUM. This program is compulsory for all the UUM students to attend before they graduate. This program is aimed to teach the students about the social ethic and learn on how to eat meal mannerly.

The main cutlery will be used during the whole protocol program.

The appetizer is mushroom soup, chicken chop as main course, and lastly the brownie cake is served as the dessert.

And of course, a thing must do is to take picture during this precious moment.

During the break time, when I and my friend visit around the EDC hotel, I am attracted by this beautiful bonsai which is placed at the atrium of  EDC hotel.

Thanks UUM for giving us such a meaningful program and we enjoy in this program so much.

At the main entrance.

 At the atrium.

The pictures were taken when I and my friend spend our semester break in KL during the Chinese New Year season. It cannot be denied that the decoration is absolutely awesome. For Chinese, the year of 2014 is classified as the year of horse. Therefore, the horse will be the main decoration.

Idina Menzel - Let It Go (from "Frozen")

Hey, do you guys know this is the catchiest song I have ever heard. That message is good and all.

"Let It Go" is a song from Disney's 2013 animated feature film, Frozen, with music and lyrics composed by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. The song was performed in the film by American actress and singer Idina Menzel in her role as Queen Elsa, after an ostracized Elsa abandons her kingdom when her magical ability to create and control ice is discovered by the public. Up in the mountains, away from confused and suspicious onlookers, she realizes that she no longer needs to hide her abilities, and declares herself free from the restrictions she has had to endure since childhood. She rejoices in finally being able to use her powers without fear, manipulating snow and ice to generate a magnificent castle for herself.

"Let It Go" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 86th Academy Awards, where the song was performed live by Menzel. It is the first song from a Disney animated musical to reach the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 since 1995, when Vanessa L. Williams' "Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas peaked at number four on the chart. The song is also Menzel's first single to reach the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making her the first Tony Award  winner for acting to ever reach the top 10.
On December 6, 2013 Walt Disney Animation Studios released a video of the entire "Let It Go" sequence as seen in the movie, which has over 184 million views as of April 13, 2014.

Singapore: a City, in a Garden, by the Bay

(These are the original pictures before edit)

(Picture after edit)

Like the Australian Garden at Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne, this is a garden designed to provoke. Singapore's Gardens by the Bay isn't your typical urban park. It's the flagship project for the Singapore National Parks department who set themselves the ambitious and tantalising vision of creating a City in a Garden.

The total area of the three public gardens at Marina Bay is 100 hectares – 2.5 times the size of Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens or to use a more universal (if Melbourne is the universe) measure, 50 times the area of the MCG playing field. So it’s big.

Singapore, it seems, was after a cross between Central Park in New York and Kew Gardens in London. What they got was something entirely different, and all the better for it. An interesting distinction is made between these Gardens (by the Bay) and the (Botanic) Gardens uptown. Both are run by the National Parks department, but the former is for horticultural recreation, the latter (largely) for education, research and conservation.

This is perhaps not a surprising distinction but one that is not made often. Most botanic gardens around the world, including the three I've worked in (Sydney, Kew, Melbourne) would argue that they combine science, conservation and recreation. Not only would they argue this but their Acts usually obligate it and their actions actively pursue this agenda.
